Connected and Cultured: GM Has Upped the Ante on Vehicle Technology

With the launch of our 2016 line-up of vehicles, GM has completely raised the stakes with its in-vehicle technology. From 4G LTE WiFi to wireless charging, today, I want to break down just some of the highlights for you.

1. Chevrolet MyLink and Cadillac CUE
First up—and one of GM's biggest technological innovations—are our slew of infotainment system features. Most new Chevrolet vehicles include a MyLink touchscreen system, and Cadillacs, respectively, now feature CUE. These systems are convenient, fast, and allow users to seamlessly control their music, make and receive phone calls through bluetooth-paired devices, and operate navigation systems, just to name a few of MyLink and CUE's functions. And with Apple Carplay and Android Auto rolling out, GM vehicles are about to get even friendlier with your smartphones.

2. Wireless Charging
Tired of fumbling with wires and USB ports? Several new Chevrolet and Cadillac products, like the 2016 Cruze Premier and 2016 Malibu Premier, feature available wireless charging for your smartphone. Some newer smartphones come equipped with wireless charging capabilities right out of the box, but you can upgrade your older device with cases available from third-party manufacturers. Wireless charging is easy to use: simply place your phone on the charging pad and notice it beginning to refill your much-used battery. How great is that?

3. Lane Keep Assist
Lane Keep Assist operates by gently steering your vehicle away from unintended lane departures. A front-facing camera detects if your vehicle is unintentionally drifting into another lane and the Lane Keep Assist system works to correct this type of departure in such a case. The system does not activate if you make a sudden movement, or if you activate your turn signal before entering another lane.

4. 4G LTE WiFi Capabilities
Most new Chevrolet and Cadillac vehicles have an available 4G LTE WiFi hotpot capability offered through OnStar. You will receive a free 3GB, 3-month trial when you purchase a vehicle with this option, and can set up your hot spot when you take delivery of the vehicle. Simply connect your WiFi-compatible device to your vehicle's hot spot using your password and start saving on your data plan! Additional coverage can be purchased when your trial expires; speak to your sales consultant for details.

5. Automatic Braking
Looking for the newest and safest technological marvel? Automatic braking is available on select new GM vehicles, like the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu and 2016 Cadillac ATS, and works in the background to keep your vehicle extra safe on the road. A front-facing camera monitors what's ahead of you and either applies or enhances your braking should the system determine that your vehicle is about to collide with another vehicle or obstacle. Automatic braking works when you travel between 8 and 60 kilometers per hour and can be overridden with a simple press of either the acceleration or brake pedals.
