Ontario Motor Sales is very pleased to announce Feature Friday, a web series that will highlight our talented staff here at OMS!

Each week we will be featuring a description of, and brief interview with, one OMS employee to find out what makes us a great place to both work and do business.

We are excited to feature Steve McTavish, Service Advisor, as our Feature Friday interviewee this week. Please scroll down to read about Steve's take on life around the dealership.

What does Ontario Motor Sales mean to you?

I think we're a very trustworthy company, and I know I try to build great trust with my customers. I think we all do, and it's so important to what we do. I've had three-generation customers where I help them get their service done, as well as their parents, and their kids, too. I've also been able to work with so many great people over the years... My coworkers are great and we always have a lot of fun.

What has been your favourite part about working here?

I think the combination of the people we get to work with—the employees and the customers. The employees all like to pick on each other just like you do in your family environment, which is really a special thing. You get to know each other here, which is something I love.

What is one thing you try to bring to your interactions with customers?

In Service, customers can be really wound up, especially if something major has just happened to their vehicle. I always try to be calm and relaxed to help them refocus and to get them where they need to be. We all want to help our customers out and I think being calm is something we're all looking for in those stressful situations. Of course, we're always hoping to get more longtime customers, and the reason we have so many already is because we really do care.

How would you describe the working environment here? Why?

It's... interesting! It can be really busy, especially towards the beginning of the week, but we usually keep it steady all throughout. It's always funny though; people like to have fun and we're always learning new things from each other. But there's definitely never a dull moment.

What is your most interesting—fun, funny, or otherwise—OMS story?

I have two! We used to park on the hill just west of the dealership, and there was this set of stairs you'd climb to go up to get your vehicle. I tried walking up the hill one wet day to take a bit of a shortcut, and ended up tumbling and rolling all the way down, landing square in a pile of mud! I was totally covered from my butt to my ears, and of course, this was at lunch... I ended up toughing it out, mud-covered, for the rest of the day!

Another time, I bent down to read a customer's tire pressure, and I bent just a bit too far and split the crotch of my pants open. I'm not sure which story is funnier, but I don't mind sharing those two with you!
