GM’s persistent engineering efforts in refining the technological achievements of their vehicles have led to the development of E-Assist technology. The upcoming 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco will be the first Chevrolet to incorporate this technological achievement alongside the beautifully redesigned interior and exterior.
What is E-Assist
A marvel of engineering excellence, each time you apply the brakes excess power is captured and applied to charging a lithium ion battery.
When coming to a complete stop, the gasoline engine silently powers down and switches over to the 15kW electric motor generator. This seamless transition brings the vehicle to a smooth stop and prepares it for seamless acceleration.
While the vehicle is at a stop the lithium ion battery is powering the radio, climate control and additional accessories.
When you commence acceleration, the lithium ion battery applies power to the electric motor generator, which creates smooth acceleration and preserves fuel economy.
This intelligent powertrain management system powers the all new midsize sedan to an outstanding estimated 37MPG on the highway. [Canadian fuel consumption ratings not yet released].
Integrated into the instrument panel you can view immediate feedback on how efficient you are driving. Providing immediate feedback on efficiency you can control your driving habits to optimize fuel consumption. Additionally a digital gauge will display which powertrain [gas or electric] is currently engaged, and the economy for each.
