Thule Vertex 2 Bike 9028, yours for $299
The Vertex 9028 is a new and improved hitch rack by Thule, it features a unique arc design that makes loading and unloading a breeze! This design also provides the user with better ground clearance and a larger distance between their bikes. This makes transport easy and gives you peace of mind knowing that your bikes, and car, will not arrive to your destination damaged.
My boyfriend got this for me because I was driving across country with my bike. Drove from Pittsburgh Pa to Ventura CA no problems at all. Bike easily came on and off so I could take it into the hotel at night. No problems with it shaking or thinking it was going to fall off the back. Very sturdy and well worth it!
This is my second and by far best Hitch Rack. it is well balanced and one can place two bikes with no problem. It does not obstruct the view and it is easy to operate and maintain. A little expensive, but then you get what you pay for!
I found this product to be an excellent choice for me. As in any Thule products I've owned, it is very rugged, sturdy and well engineered. Thule products cost more but you get more. When you tighten it down on your hitch, it doesn't move around or rattle. Some people may find it heavy, which it is, for placing on and off your car, but you want a hitch which is all steel and sturdy for carrying your bikes. The rubber straps for holding your bikes are good quality, but I suggest you get some straps for holding your wheels to the frame also and keeps everything in place.
Thule Vertex 4 Bike 9029, yours for $344
The Vertex 4 Bike 9029 is a new and improved hitch rack by Thule, unlike the 9028 model this rack can hold up to four bikes. This is perfect for biking trips with friends and family. The unique arc design make it easier to load and unload while still providing access to the rear of the vehicle. It also features better ground clearance and holds the bikes a greater distance apart. This mean that neither the bikes, or your car, will get damaged during travel.
This was not the cheapest, but it was the best we could find. Relatively easy to put together, the instructions are just about like an IKEA table, about 8 steps or so. I liked the way it looks on the back of the car, and the folding feature works well and is solid in both the up and down positions. Somewhat hard to get the bikes over the arms, but that is just because of the straps, anti-sway attachments. Bikes are tight, but you can definitely make it so they do not touch each other or the rack. The whole rack is solid, but as I am a bit OCD, I still put a bungee cord around the bikes and connected it to the hitch, so that the rack does not bounce so much over bumps. Also, I bought the STL2 lock and it worked well to connect to the car. Consider a looooong cable to connect the bikes to the rack, so you don't have to worry about parking it to go in a restaurant, or at a hotel.
I have a 1 1/4 inch on my Camry. This carrier adapts to both 1 1/4" and 2" receivers (versatile). I recommend (and so does Thule) to securely strap down the bike with the provided ratchet strap. My bike has full suspension, so the frame compresses with the motion of the car during transport. I has a few near mishaps where I was transporting the bike and the rubber bungee straps released. Luckily my bike remained on the carrier while I stopped the car. Now I use the strap when carrying the bike. I picked up more ratchet straps from the home depot for other bikes. Once again I can carry my bike(s) with confidence.
Build quality is great. Carrier bars click securely in horizontal (carrying), and vertical (stowing) position. Carrier also tilts out of the way with a release latch at the bottom. This makes trunk access easier (only do this when carrier is empty!!!).
Highly recommended carrier with a trusted name.
This is a very well-engineered rack which, because of its pivot action (pivots down super-easily to open the tailgate), we leave on the car at all times. It does a great job holding four bikes with plenty of room for all the bikes. It was easy to install and the instructions were clear. I would purchase this again or recommend it for a friend. We are very glad we got this kind rather than the platform-type rack.
Thule Force M 624, yours for $599
Run out of room in your vehicle? The Thule Force M 624 is the perfect solution. This sleek black rooftop container secures to the roof of your vehicle and fits on most factory racks. Due to its low aerodynamic design it not only cuts through air creating minimal wind drag but also won’t cause you trouble when entering your garage. Featuring a locking system you won’t need to worry about it being stolen off your vehicle.
The Thule Force carrier is awesome. I purchased it in order to haul around additional baby stuff (stroller [Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle], etc.). Works like a charm. The box is light for it's size and very easy to install once you have the cross bars in place. I installed it on a 2010 VW Golf 4-door with VW OEM roof rack with out problems. Comes with two keys, a pair of straps for inside storage, and a set of instructions. Can't beat simplicity!
I did notice that the Thule emblems are a hard rubberized stick-on. They looked like they could come off after some lengthy driving. I'll update the review if they do. It's purely cosmetic, which shows that there really isn't much to criticize!
Perfect size to extend storage space without being overwhelming, reducing mpg, or eliminating parking garages!. Won't win a storage war with larger units but it fits nicely on my Outback and Highlander w/o causing any noticeable change in mpg, noise or sunroof use. Easy one person install in 2 minutes or less. Can fit 3 carry-on bags, a pack and play, stroller, and misc items stuffed in areas around.
Ability to open both sides is very useful but latching mechanism inside unit is somewhat exposed causing careful placement of odd and ends near these parts else the unit doesn't lock shut. Been through many rain/snow storms with no water intrusion.
I had it out of the box and on the car ready to go in about three minutes. I kept it on the car for about 10 days before making the trip from Florida to Michigan to see if there were any problems. There were none. I didn't notice any noise. It never needed to be tightened. During the trip north we went through some very heavy rain. Nothing in the carrier got wet. It was everything I hoped it would be.
