In such a fast paced, digitally connected world, too often do we overlook the appreciation and experience of a beautifully crafted object like a new vehicle.
The very first 2013 Chevrolet Malibu has officially arrived at Ontario Motor Sales and it’s one of those rare moments where you completely tune out the rest of the world, and bask in all the vehicles subtleties that combine in perfect harmony to create an absolutely stunning machine. We have put together a short review below outlining our short time with the Malibu and we have received nothing but overwhelming positive reactions so far.
The Little Details That Count
The 2013 model year for the Malibu sees a complete redesign both inside and out. The front fascia employs the signature Chevrolet split grill with some unique design work to the bottom of the front bumper giving it a very unique and unmistakeable look. The 2013 Malibu embodies the aggressive stance of the Chevrolet Camaro, tailored with the clean and classic lines formerly exclusive to high end luxury vehicles. With a wider track and s shorter wheelbase, the vehicle is bold yet elegant whether in motion or standing completely still.
To open the trunk you simply press a button and hydraulic hinges open the trunk all the way. If you have your hands full with groceries or other items you no longer have to try and pop the lid up once the trunk is unlocked.
The 7in colour touch screen with Chevrolet MyLink also flips up with a hidden storage spot behind the screen for additional storage of items such as your ipod, smartphones and sunglasses.
There is an incredibly wide range of small details that add up to create such a great vehicle.
When you step in to the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu for the first time you are immersed with a level of comfort and sophistication that has never been fathomed by any competitive automaker in the Malibu‘s class. As we drive the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu to General Motors Canada HQ, the sound deadening inside the cabin is incredible, you are unable to hear the loudest noises from the world outside, even on the highway. Too often is the term “class of its own” used, though with the 2013 Malibu, this statement really does hold true. The ride is smooth as glass, and complimented by confident handling. Exceptional attention has been delivered to the interior. The material is a well blended combination of soft leather and wood enamel trim. The seating is a gorgeous combination of leather with cloth inserts, and with the Malibu being a spaciously roomy full sedan, that level of comfort is accelerated even further with tonnes of legroom for 5 adults. 10 standard airbags provide a very reassuring sense of security.
As we drive along with the air conditioning roaring in the hot August heat, we test out the handsfree Chevrolet MyLink capabilities. We request MyLink to change the XM stereo station and the air conditioning fan automatically turns down momentarily so that the computer can properly read out our voice command. It’s intelligence in automotive engineering like never before. Additional features such as available Remote Start and Passive Keyless Entry with Push Button start continue to build on this pinnacle of vehicle engineering.
We monitored closely the fuel efficiency of the 2.5L I4 as it churned out impressive numbers well below the EPA estimate. The Malibu will also be available in a 2.4L ECO option with E-Assist technology which you can read up on by clicking here.
