With the mid size sedan segment, manufacturers are generally poised at creating a vehicle that is either appointed with luxurious details and the latest in technological achievements, or their focus is shifted directly towards creating an ecologically savvy machine that produces excellent fuel economy, but fails to achieve the same level of fine details as it’s competitors. A pinnacle of engineering and design achievement would combine the best of both worlds.
We briefly touched on this emerging technology here http://www.ontariomotorsales.com/blog/unique-features-e-assist-on-the-all-new-2013-chevrolet-malibu-eco/ and it’s great to see it come to fruition.
Enter the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco with E Assist Technology.
Inside and out this vehicle is brand new. From the front you are presented with a bold wide stance with aggressive design cues reminiscent of those found on the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro. These are especially prominent in the lines shaping the hood, bumpers, and the way the unique taillights come together in the back.
When you first open the door, it’s immediately apparent that the Malibu is completely unrivalled in this category. Gorgeous soft touch leather on the dash and door complimented by unique perforated leather seats with cloth inserts all come together in an elegant form.
The vehicle is eerily quiet inside. The loudest noises from the outside world completely disappear once inside the spacious sedan. The Eco gauge is a unique tool that can have great long term effects on increasing fuel economy through better driving habits. When you are accelerating too hard with a heavy foot, the little gauge moves outside of the “Green” zone, telling you that you are operating the Malibu inefficiently. If you accelerate smoothly, the Gauge stays in the “Green Zone” and you know you’re getting much better fuel economy.
The Malibu Eco also comes fitted with E Assist technology. A mild hybrid system that uses a 15kW electric motor generator to assist in accelerating from a stop.
When you come to a red light, the engine seamlessly turns off, and the hybrid system / battery keeps the interior gauges, lights and entertainment system operating. When you accelerate the vehicle uses hybrid battery power until you are up to full speed, and than the gasoline engine quietly turns on. It’s an absolutely flawless system.
This intelligent powertrain management system powers the all new midsize sedan to an outstanding estimated 37MPG on the highway. [Canadian fuel consumption ratings not yet released].
